Learning Rebecca-speak

Rebecca patterns are so frustrating to read!!  I have to read the instructions over and over, consult with other knitters and finally translate them into something comprehensible.  I have been working on Sweater with a Wide Collar from Rebecca 29 and lucky for me, Adele at Passioknit has knit this lovely sweater and even posted her pattern notes.  Gotta love that!  I have finished the back and am busy with the 22cm of ribbing on the front piece.  Next week, I will be traveling to Orlando, FL so I'm sure I'll have lots of airport and plane time to work on this sweater.

Rowan Kid Classic is so nice to work with and I really like how the sweater is turning out so far.  Yay, an new sweater for the new year!

Merry Christmas

... and Happy Holidays to all  :-)

Memoires of a Geisha

I saw "Memoires of a Geisha" with my book club this past weekend and can I just say that I LOVED it!  It has been getting some mixed reviews but my question is what movie did those who didn't like it see?  Or maybe it's more of a chick flick.  Maybe.

Of course, I think that the book was better but the movie was shot beautifully and captured the love story.

I have been busy knitting away on my Sweater with Wide Collar.  In case you didn't know, 8 inches of 2x2 ribbing on US 4 needles goes rather slowly.  I'm sticking with it though.  I'm using Rowan Kid Classic which has been in my stash for quite some time and I am thrilled to be knitting with it.  This may become my favorite sweater but I say that with every new project.  I'll post pictures soon.

Christmas Cookie Madness

Christmastime is my favorite time of the year.  I love the promise of the season, the connection with family and friends, the music (oh the music) and the FOOD!  And what Christmas would be complete without Christmas Cookies.  This afternoon I went to my friend Andrea's Annual Christmas Cookie Exchange.  There were about 15 ladies and lots and lots of wonderful baked treats.  I made Spoon Cookies from the December issue of Gourmet Magazine.  They were very tasty and fun to make.  I didn't win for Best Tasting Cookie but they were a hit nonetheless.  The competition was tough this year; the ladies really went all out.  I wore my Tempting sweater and looked so very festive.  To fully carry out the domestic moment, I knit a Cookie Jar Cozy.

Cute, huh?  For the cozy, I used 1 skein of Tahki Bunny and knit it in the seed stitch.  The flower is made of OnLinie 64 Nobile and the pattern is from Handknit Holidays.  So simple.

Check out the table at the party.  By the time everyone arrived, the table was completely full of cookies.  I am so full but have a wonderful sugar high :-)

In knitting news, Julia brought it to my attention that I only had one project on the needles.  How could I let that happen.  What could I do but start a couple new projects.  First, I cast on the Sweater with Wide Collar from Rebecca 29 in Rowan Kid Classic.  Second, I am finally working on the poncho for my friend Yvette that I promised to make her last winter.

It's in Classic Elite Bravo and Rowan Lurex Shimmer.  She lives in New Jersey so I'm sure she'll love this warm, cozy poncho.

After my intarsia class, I got the big idea to knit fair isle Christmas stockings for my Mom and sister, Kim.  Well, it's December 17 and it just is not going to happen.  They weren't expecting me to knit anything this year so they won't be dissappointed.  Maybe next year, the yarn won't spoil!!

Doin' the Ribbon Twist

As I have been going through my stash, I came across my bag of Rowan Ribbon Twist.  I really like the yarn but don't know what I want to make out of it.  The two designs that I really like are Beth (on the left) and Willow from the Rowan Ribbon Twist Collection.

To get some inspiration, I have been surfing the blogs and found some beautiful Willows by Sweet Georgia and Whispering Pine.  The only issue with Willow is that my colorway is white and blue and I don't see a color of Big Tuft that will match well.  I could always just make it without the accent yarn. But then again, I'm getting ahead of myself.  I need to finish that last sleeve on my wrap cardi.  I don't know about you, but the second sleeve/sock/mitten is always the hardest to finish.

I'm back

I've been a bad blogger but I'm back.  I have been so busy with work and sick for the past month and a half and have just not been in the mood for knitting or blogging.  At first I thought it was just a cold that I couldn't shake but the frequent headaches and occassional fever led me to think it was the flu.  And don't get me started about the mucus.  Finally, last week I saw a doctor who informed me that it was a really nasty sinus infection.  What great news!  Now I have sinus medicine and antibiotics and all is right in my world again.  And most importantly, I am in the mood to knit again.

So, I have a few new things to share with you all.  First, an update on my wrap cardi.  I only have one more sleeve to go.

Look at those cables.  Yummy!  Hopefully, I'll finish by the end of the week.

And second, I have finished cleaning out my stash and have added some new lots to sell.  Ive added a De-Stash photo album so check it out.

I'm feeling better and the weather is finally chilly, so it's time for some knitting.  Woo-hoo!
